Sensor, Oxygen: Removal: 3.6L

The engine is equipped with four heated oxygen sensors:

WARNING:

The exhaust pipes and catalytic converter become very hot during engine operation. Allow the engine to cool before removing the oxygen sensor.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
    CAUTION:

    When disconnecting the oxygen sensor electrical connector, do not pull directly on the wire going into the sensor. The sensor wiring can be damaged resulting in sensor failure.

  3. If equipped with four wheel drive, remove the front driveshaft. Refer to REMOVAL .
  4. Support the transmission with a safety stand or suitable jack, remove the crossmember retaining bolts and slightly lower the transmission to gain access to the O2S sensor electrical connectors.
  5. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the oxygen sensor.
  7. Clean the exhaust pipe threads using an appropriate tap.
