Ignition Coil Resistance (Legend)

  1. Remove primary and secondary leads from ignition coil. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between primary terminals "A" and "D" of ignition coil. See Fig 2 or Fig 3 . Resistance should be .3-.4 ohm at 70°F (20°C). Check resistance between terminals "B" and "D" of ignition coil. Resistance should be 2090-2310 ohms at 70°F (20°C).
  2. Check secondary resistance between terminal "A" and secondary output terminal (coil tower). Resistance should be 9040-13,560 ohms (Man. Trans.) or 14,400-21,600 ohms (Auto. Trans.) at 70°F (20°C). Check for continuity between terminals "A" and "C". Ensure continuity exists. Replace coil if readings are not within specifications.
