EGR Valve Lift Sensor

  1. Disconnect EGR valve lift sensor 3-wire harness connector located on top of EGR valve. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, check for 5-volt reference voltage between ground and Yellow/White wire terminal. If 5 volts are not present, check voltage source at ECU terminal D20 (Yellow/White wire).
  2. Turn ignition off. Reconnect harness connector. Using a voltmeter, backprobe Black/White (positive) and Green/White (negative) wires of 3-wire harness connector. Connect a vacuum pump to EGR valve. Slowly apply vacuum. Voltage value should smoothly change from 1.2 to 4.0 volts as vacuum is applied and released.
  3. If sensor does not respond as indicated, replace EGR valve/lift sensor. If Code 12 is set, go to Code 12 diagnostic procedures in TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section.
