Code 6: Coolant (TW) Sensor (1992)
NOTE:
Manufacturer considers that 1993 troubleshooting procedure is easier to use than this 1992 troubleshooting procedure. Refer to CODE 6: COOLANT (TW) SENSOR (1993)
. Refer to Acura Service News bulletin number ASN 0495-07
- Turn ignition off. Remove BACK UP fuse from underhood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Check ECU for fault codes. See RETRIEVING CODES . If Code 6 is not present, problem is intermittent. Check for poor and loose connections at coolant sensor. Test drive vehicle and retest.
- If Code 6 is present, operate engine until cooling fan comes on. Turn engine off. Disconnect connector from coolant sensor. Measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is not 200-400 ohms, replace coolant sensor.
- If resistance is 200-400 ohms, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between sensor Yellow/Green wire (+) terminal and body ground. If about 5 volts are present, go to step 6). If voltage is not about 5 volts on A/T models, disconnect 18-pin connector from A/T control unit. Turn ignition on.
- Recheck voltage at Yellow/Green wire terminal. If voltage is about 5 volts, replace A/T control unit. If voltage is not about 5 volts, turn ignition off and reconnect A/T control unit. On all models, connect "D" connector of ECU Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3010A ) to ECU, leaving vehicle wiring harness disconnected. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between test terminals D13 (+) and D22 (-). Refer to Figure .
- If about 5 volts are present, repair open or short in Yellow/Green wire between ECU terminal D13 and coolant sensor. If about 5 volts are not present, substitute a known good ECU. If symptom/condition goes away, replace original ECU.
- If voltage was about 5 volts in step 3), measure voltage between sensor Yellow/Green and Green/White wires. If about 5 volts are not present, repair open in Green/White wire between ECU connector terminal D22 and coolant sensor. If about 5 volts are present, substitute a known good ECU. If symptom/condition goes away, replace original ECU.
