Shift Position Sensor
NOTE:
Shift position sensor also contains back-up light switch and Neutral safety switch. Back-up light and Neutral safety switch can also be checked when checking shift position sensor.
- Shift position sensor is mounted on side of transaxle. See Figure . Raise and support vehicle. Remove splash shield located below transaxle.
- Disconnect 14-pin connector from shift position sensor and note terminal identification. See Fig 1
. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between specified terminals or body ground in relation to shift lever position. See SHIFT POSITION SENSOR CONTINUITY SPECIFICATIONS
table.NOTE: Check continuity while moving shift lever back and forth in free play area of each gear position. DO NOT touch push button on shift lever when checking continuity.
- If continuity is not as specified, the shift position sensor may require adjustment used when installing the sensor. Refer to SHIFT POSITION SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If correct continuity cannot be obtained by adjusting shift position sensor, replace shift position sensor.
