Radiator Fan Control Module Input Test

CAUTION: Before replacing radiator fan control module, ensure Yellow/White and Yellow wires that lead to the radiator fan control module are not shorted to ground. If wires are grounded, new radiator fan control module will be damaged when system is operated.
  1. Turn ignition on. Turn A/C off. Leave connector attached to radiator fan control module. See ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LOCATIONS  under DESCRIPTION. Connect a jumper wire between ground and Light Green/Yellow wire terminal of radiator fan control module connector (backprobe the terminal).
  2. If cooling fans come on, go to next step. If cooling fans DO NOT  come on, check for open Light Green/Yellow wire between radiator fan control module and relay(s). If wire is okay, check for open wire between radiator fan control module and relay (Yellow/White wire for condenser fan relay; Yellow wire for radiator fan relay). If wire is okay, check relay. See RELAYS TEST  .
  3. Measure voltage between ground and the following terminals of radiator fan control module (backprobe the terminals).
    • Terminal No. 4 (Black wire)  If more than one volt exists, repair Black wire.
    • Terminal No. 6 (White/Green wire)  If battery voltage does not exist, check fuse No. 39. If fuse is okay, repair White/Green wire.
    • Terminal No. 7 (Black/Yellow wire)  If battery voltage does not exist, check fuse No. 2. If fuse is okay, repair open Black/Yellow wire.
    • Terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Black wire)  If battery voltage does not exist, check fuse No. 8. If fuse is okay, repair open Yellow/Black wire.
    • Terminal No. 3 (Yellow/White wire)  If battery voltage does not exist, replace radiator fan control module.
    • Terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire)  If battery voltage does not exist, replace radiator fan control module.
    • Terminal No. 8 (Light Green/Yellow wire)  Ensure engine coolant temperature is less than 199°F (93°C). If about 11 volts is not measured, check for short to ground in Light Green/Yellow wire. If wire is okay, replace ECT switch "A". If about 11 volts is still not measured, replace radiator fan control module.
