Diagnosis - SP7A: Description
Automatic transaxle is electronically controlled. Transaxle shifting and torque converter lock-up are controlled by Transmission Control Module (TCM). The TCM receives information from various input devices and uses this information to control shift and lock-up control solenoid valves.
The TCM contains a grade logic control system which controls transaxle shifting while vehicle is ascending or descending a slope or reducing vehicle speed. Transaxle is equipped with shift and key interlock systems. Shift interlock system prevents shift lever from being moved from Park unless brake pedal is depressed and accelerator pedal is in idle position. In case of a malfunction, shift lever can be released by placing ignition key in key release slot near shift lever. Key interlock system prevents ignition key from being removed from ignition lock assembly unless shift lever is in Park.
The A/T gear position indicator on instrument panel contains lights to indicate which position A/T gear position switch on shift lever is in.
