Code 1-2: Pump Motor Circuit
- Check ABS and rear defroster/cooling fan relay fuses and replace if necessary. Remove pump motor relay. Test relay and replace if necessary. See RELAY TEST
under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If relay is okay, connect jumper wire between terminals No. 1 and 2 of pump motor relay connector. See Figure
. If pump motor does not run, go to next step. If pump motor runs, go to step 5).
- Using DVOM, measure voltage between pump motor relay connector terminal No. 2 and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace underhood fuse/relay box.
- Disconnect pump motor 2-pin connector. Measure voltage between White/Blue wire terminal and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open White/Blue wire between pump motor relay and pump motor.
- Measure voltage between White/Blue wire and Black wire terminals of pump motor connector. If battery voltage exists, pump motor is defective. Replace pump assembly. If battery voltage does not exist, check ground connection at right rear corner of engine compartment. If ground connection is okay, repair open Black wire.
- Disconnect jumper wire. Remove ABS unit fuse (7.5-amp) from underhood fuse/relay box. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminal "A" and ground. See Fig 1
. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open White/Blue wire between ABS unit fuse holder and ABS control unit.

- Re-install ABS unit fuse. Disconnect ABS pump motor connector. Measure voltage between pump relay connector terminal No. 1 and ground. See Figure
. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace underhood fuse/relay box.
- Measure voltage between terminal No. 3 of pump motor relay connector and ground. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Yellow/Black wire between fuse No. 3 (15-amp), located in underdash fuse box, and pump motor relay.
- Re-install pump motor relay. Disconnect 18-pin connector (models without traction control) or 20-pin connector (models with traction control) from ABS control unit. Measure voltage between Yellow/Red wire terminal and ground. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Yellow/Red wire between pump motor relay and ABS control unit. If battery voltage exists, check for loose ABS control unit connectors. If connectors are okay, install a known-good ABS control unit and retest.
