Cruise Control Cannot Be Set

  1. Check cruise control unit inputs. See CRUISE CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST  under SYSTEM TESTS. Check main switch. See MAIN SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS  . Check SET/RESUME/CANCEL switch. See SET/RESUME/CANCEL SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS  . Check brakelight switch and mounting. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCH  under COMPONENT TESTS. Check gearshift position switch. See GEARSHIFT POSITION SWITCH  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  2. Check cruise control unit ground connection, located behind left kick panel, below hood release. Check cruise control actuator ground connection located behind right side of bumper, in engine compartment. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair wires and connections as necessary.
  3. Check the following wires for opens or loose and/or disconnected terminals. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair wires as necessary and recheck system operation. Check Blue/Red wire between horn relay and clockspring. Check Light Green/Red wire between cruise control unit and clockspring. Check Black/Yellow wire between ignition switch and fuse No. 1 (10-amp), located in fuse/relay box under instrument panel.
  4. Check Light Green wire between cruise control unit, brake switch and main switch. Check Gray wire between cruise control unit and brake switch. Check Orange wire between cruise control unit and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). Check Brown, Brown/Black and Brown/White wires between cruise control unit and cruise control actuator assembly. Check Pink wire between cruise control unit and gearshift position switch (A/T). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repair wires as necessary.
