DTC 5-1: Fail-Safe Relay
- Remove fail-safe relay from underdash relay block. See Figure . Test fail-safe relay. See FAIL-SAFE RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS . Replace relay as necessary and retest system. If relay tests okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect TCS control unit 20-pin connector. With fail-safe relay still disconnected, check for continuity between ground and TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 6 (Red/Black wire). See Figure . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Red/Black wire between TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 6 and fail-safe relay terminal No. 4.
- Reconnect TCS control unit 20-pin connector. Reinstall fail-safe relay. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 6 (Red/Black wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, replace TCS control unit and retest system.
- Measure voltage between ground and TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 10 (Brown/White wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, repair short to power in Brown/White wire between TCS control unit 20-pin connector terminal No. 10 and fail-safe relay terminal No. 3. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage does not exist, system has returned to normal. If problem returns, replace TCS control unit.
