Gearshift Position Switch

  1. Gearshift position switch is located on side of transmission. See Figure and Figure . Loosen gearshift position switch mounting bolts. Set gearshift lever to Neutral position. On 2.5TL, rotate gearshift position switch until control shaft is at 90 degrees to Neutral marks (switch will click in Neutral position). On 3.2TL and 3.5RL, rotate gearshift position switch lock washer projected tip, located under control lever, is aligned with Neutral position mark on gearshift position switch.
  2. On all models, tighten gearshift position switch mounting bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 N.m). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Move gear shift lever to each gearshift position and ensure gearshift position indicator is synchronized with gearshift lever position.
  3. Set parking brake and depress brake pedal. Attempt to start vehicle in each gearshift position. Engine should only start in Neutral or Park. Ensure gearshift lever cannot be moved from Neutral to Reverse without pushing shift lever through guide. Ensure backup lights illuminate when gearshift lever is in Reverse.
