VSS Input Test
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect 3-pin connector from VSS. VSS is located on transaxle. Check Black wire for continuity to ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, check for open in Black wire or poor ground connection.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check for battery voltage between the Black/Yellow wire and Black wire terminals. See Fig 1
. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check fuse No. 15 (7.5-amp) and Black/Yellow wire for open or short to ground.
- With ignition switch in ON position, check for voltage between Blue/White wire and Black wire terminals. If 5 volts exists, go to next step. If 5 volts does not exist, repair open or short to ground in Blue/White wire. Blue/White wire can have a short to ground caused by a short in any connected component.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect harness connector to VSS. Use DVOM and backprobe for voltage between Blue/White wire and Black wire terminals. Raise vehicle and support with jack stands. Place transmission in neutral and turn ignition switch to ON position. Rotate one front wheel while the other front wheel is secured from rotating. If DVOM reading varies between zero volts and 5 volts or greater, go to next step. If DVOM reading does not vary between zero volts and 5 volts or greater, replace VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect 16-pin connector "B" from instrument cluster. Use DVOM to measure voltage between ground and 16-pin instrument cluster connector "B" terminal No. 6 (Orange wire). See Fig 2
. Rotate one front wheel while the other front wheel is secured from rotating. If DVOM reading varies between zero volts and 5 volts or greater, replace speedometer. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DVOM reading does not vary between zero volts and 5 volts or greater, repair open in Orange and/or Blue/White wire between VSS and instrument cluster 16-pin connector "B".
