Description & Operation
Immobilizer system is designed to disable vehicle when an incorrect ignition key is used. Immobilizer system consists of a transponder located in ignition key, immobilizer receiver, immobilizer indicator light and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). See Figure.
When key is inserted into ignition switch and turned to ON (II) position, immobilizer receiver sends power to transponder in ignition key. Transponder sends a coded signal back through immobilizer receiver to the PCM. If the proper key was used, immobilizer indicator light will illuminate for 2 seconds, then go off. If key with an incorrect code or code was not received or recognized by the immobilizer receiver, indicator light will illuminate for 2 seconds, then blink until ignition switch is turned off. If ignition switch is turned off, indicator will blink for about 5 seconds to signal that immobilizer receiver has been set correctly, and then go off.
