Piston & Rod Assembly

- Each rod is sorted into 1 of 4 size tolerance ranges from 0-.0009" (0-.024 mm) in .0002" (.006 mm) increments. Size depends on crank journal bore. A number between 1 and 4 is stamped on split line of rod big end. Any combination of numbers between 1 and 4 may be found on any engine. See CONNECTING RODS under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.NOTE: Reference numbers are for big end bore code, and do not indicate rod position in engine.
- Install piston and connecting rod so arrow on top of piston points toward timing belt, and connecting rod oil hole points toward intake manifold side of engine. See Fig 1.
