Description & Operation
Anti-theft and keyless entry systems are integrated. The anti-theft system is activated automatically 15 seconds after ignition switch is in the off position, key is removed from ignition, doors, hood and trunk have been closed and locked using door lock. Anti-theft system is also activated immediately after ignition switch is in the off position, key is removed from ignition, doors, hood and trunk have been closed and locked using remote transmitter. The anti-theft system indicator light, located on driver's side door, will flash after system is armed. See Figure .
If the hood, trunk or any door is forcibly opened or opened without the use of a key or remote transmitter, the anti-theft system will be triggered. The engine starter circuit will be interrupted, a siren (alarm) will sound, headlights, taillights, side-marker and parking lights will flash repeatedly. The alarm will be active for approximately 2 minutes, or until the system is disarmed by unlocking either front door from the outside with the key or a remote transmitter.
The anti-theft system is also equipped with a panic mode feature. If PANIC button on remote transmitter is pushed for about 2 seconds, siren will sound and exterior lights will flash for about 30 seconds. To cancel panic mode, press any button on remote transmitter or turn ignition switch on. Panic mode will not function if key is in the ignition.
Keyless entry system allows locking and unlocking vehicle with remote transmitter(s). If UNLOCK button on remote transmitter is pushed once, only the driver's door will unlock. If UNLOCK button is pushed a second time, the remaining doors will unlock. Interior (dome) lights will illuminate when UNLOCK button is pushed, if courtesy light switch is in its center position. If a door is unlocked but not opened within 30 seconds, interior lights will turn off, doors will lock and security system will rearm. Interior lights will turn off immediately if remote transmitter LOCK button is pressed within 30 seconds.
If doors are not fully closed or key is in the ignition, remote transmitter will not lock or unlock doors. If trunk or hood is open, remote transmitter will lock and unlock doors but will not arm anti-theft system. The trunk can be opened by pushing and holding TRUNK button for 2 seconds. If key is in ignition switch, trunk will not open. When doors lock or unlock, system will verify by flashing parking lights, side-marker lights and taillights once if locked, twice if unlocked.
