SERVICE INFORMATION

A recent factory inspection of returned warranty parts found a number of throttle bodies with damage to the plastic linkage the cruise control cable attaches to. This damage may have been caused when doing S/B 04-020, Safety Recall: CL and TL Automatic Transmission 2nd Gear Inspection  .

Step 16 of the INSPECTION PROCEDURE  tells you to detach the throttle cable from the cable bracket on the driver's side of the bulkhead. This lets you move the cable out of the way so you have a clear view of 2nd gear for your photos.

Step 12 also tells you to mount the spacer below the camera mount bracket. With the spacer in this location, you have a clear view of 2nd gear without the cruise control cable getting in the way.

There's absolutely no reason to detach the throttle cable or the cruise control cable from the accelerator linkage on the throttle body. Detaching the cruise control cable could damage the plastic linkage on the throttle body.

So, don't invite problems doing 2nd gear inspection. Our best advice: Always  follow the steps in the S/B to the letter.
