Thickness and Parallelism
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Acura TL and 2007 Acura TL. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations (see LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ).
- Remove the front wheels. Take care not to scratch the calipers (Type-S model, 4-piston caliper type).
- Remove the brake pads: Except Type-S model (see REPLACEMENT - EXCEPT TYPE-S MODEL ), Type-S model (4-piston caliper type) (see REPLACEMENT - TYPE-S MODEL (4-PISTON CALIPER TYPE) ).
- Using a micrometer, measure brake disc thickness at eight points, about 45° apart and 10 mm (3/8 in.) in from the outer edge of the brake disc. Replace the brake disc if the smallest measurement is less than the max. refinishing limit.
Brake disc thickness:
Except Type-S model:
Standard: 27.9-28.1 mm (1.10-1.11 in.)
Max. refinishing limit: 26.0 mm (1.02 in.)
Type-S model (4-piston caliper type):
Standard: 24.9-25.1 mm (0.98-0.99 in.)
Max. refinishing limit: 23.0 mm (0.91 in.)
Brake disc parallelism: 0.015 mm (0.0006 in.) max.
NOTE: This is the maximum allowable difference between the thickness measurements. - If the brake disc is beyond the service limit for parallelism, refinish the brake disc with a commercially available on-car brake lathe.NOTE: If the brake disc is beyond the service limit for refinishing, replace it (see FRONT BRAKE DISC REPLACEMENT ).
