Audio Unit Button(s) Do Not Work

NOTE: If only the XM button is not working. Go to POOR OR NO SOUND WITH XM RADIO  .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Try several buttons to check function.

    Do all buttons work normally? 

    1. YES  - Intermittent problem. Check for loose or poor connections at the audio unit, the display panel control unit, and the navigation control unit (if equipped).
    2. NO  - Go to step  3.
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4. Disconnect audio unit connector C (26P) and display panel control unit connector A (14P).
  5. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (26P) terminal C13 and body ground.

    Is there continuity? 

    1. YES  - Repair a short to ground in the wire between the audio unit and the display panel control unit.
    2. NO  - Go to step  6.
  6. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (26P) terminal C26 and body ground.

    Is there continuity? 

    1. YES  - Repair a short to ground in the wire between the audio unit and the display panel control unit.
    2. NO  - If the vehicle is not equipped with navigation, go to step  7. If the vehicle is equipped with navigation, go to step  8.
  7. Substitute a known good audio unit, and retest the function of the buttons.

    Do the button operate normally? 

    1. YES  - Replace the original audio unit.
    2. NO  - Replace the display panel control unit.
  8. Disconnect navigation control unit connector A (20P) and display panel control unit connector E (22P).
  9. Check for continuity between audio unit connector A (20P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.

    Is there continuity? 

    1. YES  - Repair a short to ground in the wire between the navigation control unit and the display panel control unit.
    2. NO  - Go to step  10.
  10. Check for continuity between audio unit connector A (20P) terminal No. 20 and body ground.

    Is there continuity? 

    1. YES  - Repair a short to ground in the wire between the navigation control unit and the display panel control unit.
    2. NO  - Go to step  11.
  11. Check the operation of the navigation display buttons.

    Do the navigation buttons operate normally? 

    1. YES  - Go to step  13.
    2. NO  - Go to step  12.
  12. Substitute a known-good navigation control unit, and recheck the button operation.

    Do the buttons operate normally? 

    1. YES  - Replace the original navigation control unit.
    2. NO  - Go to step  13.
  13. Substitute a known-good audio unit, and recheck the button operation.

    Do the buttons operate normally? 

    1. YES  - Replace the original audio unit.
    2. NO  - Replace the display panel control unit.
