DTC 64-12: Steering Angle Sensor Power Circuit Open
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON (II) again.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 64-12 indicated?
YES -Go to step 5.
NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose terminals between the steering angle sensor 5P connector and the VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting (see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) ).
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the steering angle sensor 5P connector.
- Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector.
- Check for continuity between VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector terminal No. 7 and steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 5.Fig 1: Checking Continuity Between VSA Modulator-Control Unit 37P Connector Terminal No. 7 And Steering Angle Sensor 5P Connector Terminal No. 5

Is there continuity?
YES -Go to step 9.
NO -Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal No. 5 and body ground.

Is there 0.1 V or more?
YES -Repair short to power in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO -Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit (see VSA MODULATOR-CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ), and retest.
