Camshaft Removal And Installation: Installation
Front
- Front Camshaft - Install
1. Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of the new camshaft oil seal (A). 2. Clean and dry the camshaft oil seal housing.
3. Gently tap the new camshaft oil seal squarely into the cylinder head to the specified installed height.
4. Measure the distance between the cylinder head surface (B) and the camshaft oil seal.
5. Insert the camshaft (C) into the cylinder head, then install the camshaft thrust cover (D). Always use a new O-ring (E). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.
6. Clean the excess oil off the camshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.
7. Install the dowel pin (F).
Oil Seal Installed Height: 0.5-1.5 mm (0.020-0.059 in) - Front Rocker Arm Assembly - Install
- Front Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Install
1. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt (A). 2. Connect the CMP sensor connector (B).
3. Install the back cover (C) and the front camshaft pulley (D).
- Timing Belt - Install
- Valve Clearance - Adjust
- EGR Valve Stud Bolt - Install
Install the EGR valve stud bolts (A).
- EGR Valve - Install
- Battery - Install
- CKP Pattern - Clear/Learn
Do the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure .
Rear
- Rear Camshaft - Install
1. Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of the new camshaft oil seal (A). 2. Clean and dry the camshaft oil seal housing.
3. Gently tap the new camshaft oil seal squarely into the cylinder head to the specified installed height.
4. Measure the distance between the cylinder head surface (B) and the camshaft oil seal.
5. Insert the camshaft (C) into the cylinder head, then install the high pressure fuel pump housing (D). Always use new O-rings (E). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.
6. Clean the excess oil off the camshaft, and check that the oil seal lip is not distorted.
7. Install the dowel pin (F).
Oil Seal Installed Height: 0.5-1.5 mm (0.020-0.059 in) - High Pressure Fuel Pump - Install
- Rear Rocker Arm Assembly - Install
- Rear Camshaft Pulley and Back Cover - Install

1. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt (A). 2. Install the back cover (B) and the rear camshaft pulley (C).
- Timing Belt - Install
- Valve Clearance - Adjust
- Cylinder Head Peripheral - Install
1. Install the harness bracket (A) to the rear cylinder head. 2. Connect the heater hoses (A). 3. Install the EVAP purge joint bracket. 4. Install the EVAP purge joint (A) to the bracket (B). 5. Connect the EVAP purge hose (C).
- Fuel Feed Hose - Connect
Connect the fuel feed hose (A), then install the quick-connect fitting cover (B) .
- Intake Air Duct - Install
1. Install the intake air duct (A). NOTE: When you tighten the band,refer to the throttle body removal/installation procedure
2. Connect the breather pipe (B).
- Air Cleaner - Install
- Fuel Leak - Inspect
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel rail will be pressurized. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.
- Engine Coolant - Refill
Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system .
