O: Shift solenoid valve ON
X: Shift solenoid valve OFF
A: Clutch pressure control solenoid valve A pressure
B: Clutch pressure control solenoid valve B pressure
C: Clutch pressure control solenoid valve C pressure
D: Clutch pressure control solenoid valve D pressure
PL: Line pressure
When shift solenoid valves A, B, C, D, and E are turned ON/OFF, the hydraulic pressure circuit opens/closes. The hydraulic pressure circuit supplies/discharges hydraulic pressure to/from each clutch and piston according to the combination of the ON/OFF status of the shift solenoid valves. Shift solenoid valves are controlled by the ON/OFF signal from the powertrain control module (PCM). A signal from the PCM is output to apply control pressure to the correct clutch and piston according to the shift schedule. The PCM uses the output values of the shift fork B position sensor and the shift fork C position sensor to detect malfunction. If the shift fork B position sensor and the shift fork C position sensor outputs abnormal value from the commanded one, the PCM detects a shift solenoid valve E stuck ON failure and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
Either of the following symptoms occurs at each PCM command control:
| PCM command control | Symptom |
|---|---|
| 5th gear engagement or 7th gear disengagement control (secondary clutch and reverse clutch disengaged and main clutch engaged) | 5th gear engagement disable/7th gear disengagement disable/7th gear engagement |
| 4th gear engagement or 2nd gear disengagement control (main clutch and reverse clutch disengaged and secondary clutch engaged) | 4th gear engagement disable/2nd gear disengagement disable/2nd gear engagement |
Judgment condition of 5th gear engagement disable: Shift fork C position sensor value is in the range shown in figure 1-A.
Judgment condition of 7th gear disengagement disable: Shift fork C position sensor value is in the range shown in figure 1-B.
Judgment condition of 7th gear engagement: Shift fork C position sensor value is less than -0.1575 in (-4 mm).
Judgment condition of 4th gear engagement disable: Shift fork B position sensor value is in the range shown in figure 1-A.
Judgment condition of 2nd gear disengagement disable: Shift fork B position sensor value is in the range shown in figure 1-B.
Judgment condition of 2nd gear engagement: Shift fork B position sensor value is less than -0.1575 in (-4 mm).
Possible Cause
- Shift solenoid valve E stuck ON
- Servo shift valve C stuck
Confirmation Procedure
With the HDS
None.
With the Driving Pattern
- Start the engine.
- Drive the vehicle so that it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear.
- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
