DTC P0711
DTC P0711 : ATF Temperature Sensor Performance
General Description
The ATF temperature sensor is a thermistor type sensor that changes resistance according to the change in ATF temperature. The transmission control module (TCM) sends a 5 V reference signal to the sensor through a pull-up resistor. When the ATF temperature is low, the sensor resistance increases and the TCM detects a high signal voltage. As the ATF temperature rises, the sensor resistance decreases and the TCM detects a low signal voltage. If the ATF temperature sensor signal does not change, the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The current ATF temperature [ ATF Temperature ] is less than -4 deg.F (-20 deg.C) after Enable Conditions.
Possible Cause
The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Valve body assembly failure (ATF temperature sensor)
- TCM internal circuit failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Start the engine with the engine coolant temperature [ Engine Coolant Temperature ] at 95 deg.F (35 deg.C) or less.
- Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature [ Engine Coolant Temperature ] reaches 158 deg.F (70 deg.C) or more.
- Drive the vehicle at a speed of 19 mph (30 km/h) or more with the throttle position at 6.25 % or more for at least 5 minutes.
- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.
With the HDS
None.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the TCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on, the shift position indicator blinks, and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
