DTC C1040-00: Inspection

Tire Inspection 

Test Procedure 

• Procedure
• • Check all four tires for size, inflation, and wear.

• Normal Conditions
• 1. -

     All four tires the correct size, properly inflated, and worn evenly.

Results 

• If it is abnormal, there is a problem with the tire or tire pressure.

Magnetic Encoder Visual Inspection 

Test Procedure 

• Procedure
• 1. Start the engine.
  2. Test-drive the vehicle at 12 mph (20 km/h) or more in a straight line.
     NOTE:

     Drive the vehicle on the road, not on a lift.

  3. Confirm the HDS [LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED], [RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED], [LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED], [RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED] value.
  4. Check the measurement part of magnetic encoder according to the wheels with different wheel speed values.
• Normal Conditions
• 1. -

     There is no damage and/or debris.

  2. -

     The part is installed correctly.

Results 

• If it is abnormal, there is a problem with the magnetic encoder.

Wheel Speed Sensor Inspection 

NOTE:  Since there is no direct method to test the inspection item, troubleshooting is performed using a known-good component.

Preconditions 

NOTE:  This procedure can be done before any other inspections are completed because this test procedure includes all of the following inspection items. However, if this test fails, it will be necessary to continue with each inspection item individually to determine which item failed.

• Tire is normal
• Magnetic encoder is normal

Test Procedure 

• Procedure
• 1. Start the engine.
  2. Test-drive the vehicle at 12 mph (20 km/h) or more in a straight line.
     NOTE:

     Drive the vehicle on the road, not on a lift.

  3. Confirm the HDS [LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED], [RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED], [LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED], [RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED] value.
  4. Substitute a known-good wheel speed sensor according to the wheels with different wheel speed values and attempt to reproduce the failure.

Results 

• If the failure is reproduced, there is a problem with other related components.
• If the symptom/DTC goes away, the wheel speed sensor must be faulty.

VSA Modulator-Control Unit Inspection 

Test Procedure 

• If the other inspection item(s) indicated a normal condition, then it is determined that the remaining VSA modulator-control unit is the cause.

Results 

• There is a problem with the VSA modulator-control unit.
