Starter Performance Test (3.0L Engine): Test

How to use this manual .

NOTICE: 

  1. Starter Performance (Suction) - Test

    Preconditions

    Procedure/Specifications 

    1. Disconnect the motor wire from the M terminal.

    2. Connect the 12 volt battery as shown, and check the starter performance.

    Specifications 

    Specification
    The starter pinion moves out

    Result 

    • If it is abnormal, replace the starter.
  2. Starter Performance (Retract) - Test

    Preconditions

    Procedure/Specifications 

    1. Disconnect the motor wire from the M terminal.

    2. Connect the 12 volt battery as shown. (Figure 1)

    3. Disconnect the 12 volt battery from the M terminal, and check the starter performance. (Figure 2)

    Specifications 

    Specification
    The pinion does not retract

    4. Disconnect the 12 volt battery from the starter body, and check the starter performance. (Figure 3)

    Specifications 

    Specification
    The starter pinion retracts immediately

    Result 

    • If it is abnormal, replace the starter.
  3. Starter Performance (No Load) - Test

    Preconditions

    Procedure/Specifications 

    • Connect the starter to the 12 volt battery as shown, and confirm that the motor runs.
      NOTE: If the electric current meets the specification when the 12 volt battery voltage is at 11.5 V, the starter is working properly.

    Standard Value
    110 A or less

    Result 

    • If the measurement is not within specifications, replace the starter.
