WARNING:
Flammable - Keep Fire Away
NOTICE:
Refer to the Fuel and Emissions Systems Service Precautions before doing the procedure.
- Fuel Tank - Drain
Preconditions
- Fuel Pressure Relieved - Refer to: Fuel Pressure Test(2.0L Engine) or Fuel Pressure Test(3.0L Engine) or Fuel Pressure Relieving

Figure 1
Procedure
1. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (a) . (Figure 1)
NOTICE:
Place a rag or shop towel (b) over the quick-connect fitting.
Figure 2
2. Using a T-fitting (c) and suitable hoses, connect a vacuum pump/gauge, 0-30 inHg, to the fuel tank unit port (d). (Figure 2)3. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure .
4. Attach another suitable hose to the T-fitting and place the other end of the hose to a suitable gasoline container (e), then reconnect the connectors (f). (Figure 2)5. Apply constant vacuum pressure to drain the fuel out of the fuel tank.
NOTICE:
- To avoid damaging the fuel tank unit, do not apply vacuum of more than 25 inHg (85 kPa).
- If you are removing the fuel tank unit, drain the fuel until the fuel tank is at or below 3/4.
- If you are removing the fuel tank, drain the fuel until the fuel tank is empty as necessary.
