Intake Air Duct, Air Cleaner Housing Visual Inspection

Test Procedure

Procedure
- Check the condition at the connections or for any blockage at the following:
  intake air duct
  
  Air cleaner housing

Normal Conditions
- Conditions at the connections are OK, and there is no blockages.

Results

If it is abnormal, there is a problem with the intake air system component(s).

Throttle Body Visual Inspection

Test Procedure

Preparation
- Throttle body inlet hose: disconnected from the throttle body

Procedure
- Do the throttle body cleaning - Refer to: Throttle Body Carbon Accumulation Check or Throttle Body Cleaning .
- Check the throttle valve and bore for dirt, carbons, or damages.

Normal Conditions
- There is no dirt, carbons, or damages.

Results

If it is abnormal, there is a problem with the throttle body.

MAF Sensor Functional Inspection

Test Procedure

Procedure

Start the engine, and let it idle.
Make sure the following conditions are met:
- HDS [ECT Sensor 1] above 158 deg.F (70 deg.C)
- Transmission in P or N
- All engine and electrical loads turned off
Monitor the HDS [Engine Speed] and hold the engine speed at 2, 500 rpm for 30 seconds.
Confirm the HDS [MAF Sensor] while holding the engine speed at 2, 500 rpm.

Normal Conditions
- HDS [MAF Sensor] value is between 9.6 g/s and 13.6 g/s .

Results

If it is abnormal, there is a problem with MAF sensor/IAT sensor 1.

IAT sensor 1 Functional Inspection

Preconditions

Engine is cold condition (ambient temperature)

Test Procedure

Procedure
- Note the ambient temperature.
- Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- Quickly note the HDS [IAT Sensor (1)].
- Compare the HDS [IAT Sensor (1)] value to the recorded ambient temperature.

Normal Conditions
- The difference between the HDS [IAT Sensor (1)] value and the ambient temperature is less than 5.4 deg.F (3 deg.C) .

Results

If it is abnormal, there is a problem with MAF sensor/IAT sensor 1.
