DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0712, P0713
DTC P0712 : ATF Temperature Sensor Circuit Low DTC P0713 : ATF Temperature Sensor Circuit High
General Description
The ATF temperature sensor is a thermistor type sensor that changes resistance according to the change in ATF temperature. The transmission control module (TCM) sends a 5 V reference signal to the sensor through a pull-up resistor. When the ATF temperature is low, the sensor resistance increases and the TCM detects a high signal voltage. As the ATF temperature rises, the sensor resistance decreases and the TCM detects a low signal voltage. When the ATF temperature sensor signal voltage to the TCM is below specification or above specification, indicating that the temperature is above specification (a short to ground) or below specification (open), the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
DTC: P0712
The ATF temperature sensor output voltage [ATF Temperature Sensor Voltage] is less than 0.09 V for at least 2.6 seconds.
DTC: P0713
The ATF temperature sensor output voltage [ATF Temperature Sensor Voltage] is more than 4.92 V for at least 2.6 seconds.
Possible Cause
- Solenoid wire harness failure
- ATF temperature sensor failure (integrated with solenoid wire harness)
- TCM internal circuit failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for at least 5 seconds in P position/mode.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the TCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on, the shift position indicator blinks, and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
