General Description

The parking system is operated by driving the parking actuator valve with shift solenoid valves C, D, E, and F. The parking actuator valve stroke sensor which measures the stroke position of the parking actuator valve is structured by two systems as the sensor characteristics are shown as in the figure. When the stroke value of the parking actuator valve stroke sensor is approximately 5.4 mm (0.21 in) or more, the parking system is non-parking position, and when it is approximately -4.1 mm (-0.16 in) or less, it is in parking position. If the parking actuator valve stroke sensor value does not exceed the parking determination value after certain lapsed time since the shift position/mode is selected to P, the transmission control module (TCM) detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type

Execution Continuous
Sequence None
Duration 4 seconds or more
DTC Type One drive cycle, MIL off, shift position indicator blinks

Enable Conditions

Condition
Vehicle ON mode
Shift position/mode P

Malfunction Threshold

The parking actuator valve stroke sensor value is more than -4.1 mm (-0.16 in) after 4 seconds or more since the shift position/mode is selected to P.

Possible Cause

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Confirmation Procedure

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the shift position indicator blinks and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the TCM memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
