DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0872, P0873

DTC P0872  : Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor C Circuit Low DTC P0873  : Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor C Circuit High

General Description

GHH477566Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

Transmission fluid pressure sensor C is installed on the passage of the hydraulic pressure supplied to clutch C1. The transmission control module (TCM) measures the hydraulic pressure of clutch C1 from the output voltage of transmission fluid pressure sensor C. Transmission fluid pressure sensor C is a strain gauge that changes output voltage depending on the hydraulic pressure change supplied to clutch C1. When the clutch C1 hydraulic pressure is low, the TCM detects a low signal voltage. Conversely, when the clutch C1 hydraulic pressure is high, the TCM detects a high signal voltage. If the transmission fluid pressure sensor C output voltage is a specified voltage for a set time, the TCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold

DTC: P0872

The transmission fluid pressure sensor C output voltage is less than 0.25 V for at least 0.45 second.

DTC: P0873

The transmission fluid pressure sensor C output voltage is more than 4.95 V for at least 0.25 second.

Possible Cause

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on, the shift position indicator blinks, and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the TCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command.
