Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Test complete.
  2. CHECK THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH 
    1. Check for the presence of loose electrical connections at the Powertrain Control Module and the Brake Pedal Switch.

      Were any loose electrical connections present?

      Yes 

      • Restore the correct connections.

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH WIRING CONTINUITY 
    1. Check for correct continuity of the wiring between the Powertrain Control Module and the Brake Pedal Switch.

      Does the wiring have continuity?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Restore the correct continuity for the wiring.
  4. CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH WIRING FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Check the correct insulation of the wiring between ground and the Brake Pedal Switch wiring.

      Was the wiring shorted to ground?

      Yes 

      • Restore the correct insulation for the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH WIRING FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY 
    1. Check the correct insulation of the wiring between Battery and the Brake Pedal Switch wiring.

      Was the wiring shorted to Battery?

      Yes 

      • Restore the correct insulation for the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH POSITION 
    1. Verify that the Brake Switch in the correct position.

      Is the Brake Switch in the correct position?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

      • Reposition the Brake Switch too its correct position.
  7. CHECK THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH OPERATION 
    1. With the Scan Tool, check the brake pedal switch operation.

      Is the Brake Switch operating correctly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  8

      No 

  8. CHECK THE CAN BUS WIRING CONTINUITY 
    1. Check for correct continuity of the wiring between the Body Control Module and the Powertrain Control Module.

      Does the wiring have continuity?

      Yes 

      • Go To  9

      No 

      • Restore the correct continuity for the wiring.
  9. CHECK THE CAN BUS WIRING FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Check the correct insulation of the wiring between ground and the CAN Bus wiring.

      Was the wiring shorted to ground?

      Yes 

      • Restore the correct insulation for the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  10
  10. CHECK THE CAN BUS WIRING FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY 
    1. Check the correct insulation of the wiring between Battery and the CAN Bus wiring.

      Was the wiring shorted to Battery?

      Yes 

      • Restore the correct insulation for the wiring.

      No 

      • Go To  11
  11. CHECK CONNECTIONS AT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Check for the presence of loose electrical connections at the Body Control Module.

      Were any loose electrical connections present?

      Yes 

      • Restore the correct connections.

      No 

      • Go To  12
  12. CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Check that the Powertrain Control Module power supply is correct.

      Is the Powertrain Control Module power supply correct?

      Yes 

      • Go To  13

      No 

      • Restore the Powertrain Control Module power supply.
  13. CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE BODY CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Check that the Body Control Module power supply is correct.

      Is the Body Control Module supply correct?

      Yes 

      • Go To  14

      No 

      • Restore the Body Control Module power supply.
  14. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Verify that the Powertrain Control Module is working correctly.

      Is the Powertrain Control Module working correctly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  15

      No 

  15. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE BODY CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Verify that the Body Control Module is working correctly.

      Is the Body Control Module working correctly?

      Yes 

      • End of diagnosis.

      No
