Charging wiring diagram.

Electronic key with START/STOP button (Keyless Entry Go) is standard equipment on this model.

The ignition device (START/STOP button) has the following possible states:

The ignition and recharging circuit comprises the battery, starter and generator.

The starter consists of a Direct Current (DC) motor supplied by the battery and an energizing electromagnet.

When the key enable signal (INT) is sent, the warning light in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) illuminates and sends a power supply to the voltage regulator built into the generator.

In these conditions the energizing circuit (rotor) is enabled to ground by the regulator electronics.

With the generator rotating through the effect of the variation in the Revolution Per Minute (RPM) and the magnetic field, a three-phase alternating voltage is produced in the electrical circuit (stator) which, regulated by the diode bridge, can exit B+ terminal.

When the upper voltage calibration level is reached (13.7 - 14.2 V) the battery is charged and the system supplied battery voltage.

This engine fits an electronically controlled generator, provided with a regulator that receives controls from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This allows for a better performance in terms of:

Electronic Start Stop (ESS)

The ESS system automatically stops the engine each time the vehicle is stationary and starts it again when the driver wants to accelerate.

The ESS system is based on a starting system (battery and starter) which can restart the engine quickly and relatively quietly. It can withstand a number of starting events much higher than a traditional system.

The ESS activation and control strategies are managed by the PCM and the Body Control Module (BCM) through direct connections or via the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus.

There is Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) on the negative terminal which monitors the battery status and notifies the network modules to allow the optimum management and usage of the battery within the framework of the ESS system strategies.

The vehicle operation is signaled by the warning light on the IPC and a number of messages concerning the ESS system.

The ESS system is inoperative under the following circumstances:

There are many other circumstances that can also lead to ESS deactivation.

The ESS system can be activated/deactivated using the button between the controls on the left side of the dashboard.

The start-up logic is also implemented by a relay switch in the PCM.
