Removal And Installation

Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove hood. Refer to HOOD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove front aerodynamic guard. Refer to BELLY PAN, CENTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Remove Rigid Pipe from Hydraulic Control Unit to Left Front Brake. Refer to TUBES AND HOSES, BRAKE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  7. Remove passenger side footrest. Refer to FOOT REST, FLOOR, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  8. Undo the fixing screw (1a) and disconnect the steering column (1b) from the steering box pinion.

  9. Disconnect the electrical connection (1) for the braking system control unit.
  10. Undo the retaining bracket fixing screws (2a) and place the braking system control unit (2b) to one side.

  11. Undo the fixing bolts (1a) and remove the mounting bracket (1b) for the cooling unit.
  12. Disengage the brake pipes (2b) from the retaining clips (2a).

  13. Undo the nut (1a) securing the steering rod head (1b) to the steering knuckle.

  14. Use a suitable extractor (1a) to disconnect the steering rod heads (1b) from the steering knuckle.

  15. Undo the nuts securing the steering box.
    NOTE:

    Keep the steering box fixing screws from the passenger compartment side.

  16. Release and remove the steering box from its housing, extracting it from the front left wheel compartment.
    NOTE:

    Keep the steering box rear spacers.

Installation

  1. Even if the bushings (1a) do not seem to have come out of the seat, check using the special fitting tool (1b).
    NOTE:

    If one or more bushings come completely out of the seat, replace the steering knuckle.

  2. Fit the spacers and the steering box (1) in position.
  3. Fit the steering box fixing screws in the passenger compartment.
  4. Tighten the nuts (2) securing the steering box.
    TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

    Steering rod head (to steering knuckle) Nut M10x1.25 40
  5. Refit the braking system control unit in its housing and tighten the fixing screws.
  6. Connect the electrical connection for the braking system control unit.

  7. Connect the steering column (1a) to the steering box pinion and tighten the fixing screw (1b).
    TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

  8. Install passenger side footrest. Refer to FOOT REST, FLOOR, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  9. Install Rigid Pipe from Hydraulic Control Unit to Left Front Brake. Refer to TUBES AND HOSES, BRAKE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Install the front aerodynamic guard. Refer to BELLY PAN, CENTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or BELLY PAN, SIDE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  11. Install hood. Refer to HOOD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Remove the car from the lift.
  15. Perform Front End Alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
