Test No 1: Operational Test

  1. Turn ignition on and start engine. Engine should be started. If okay, proceed to TEST NO 2  . If not, with ignition switch off, disconnect harness at MCU. Test between MCU connector J2 pin 3 and distributor positive (Orange wire) at distributor for continuity.
  2. If not okay, repair open wire and retest. If okay, test MCU connector J2 pin 5 and distributor minus (Violet wire) at distributor for continuity. If not okay, repair open wire and retest. If okay, test MCU connector J1 pin 1 and Orange wire of ignition module for continuity.
  3. If not okay, repair open wire and retest. If okay, test MCU connector J2 pin 1 and engine ground for continuity. Check harness ground for tight connection at right side of cylinder block. If not okay, repair open wire and retest. If okay, turn ignition switch to "ON" position without starting engine. Test MCU connector J2 pin 11 and ground for voltage and turn ignition switch off.
  4. If not okay, repair open wire and retest. If okay, test MCU connector J2 pin 7 and the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid for continuity. If not okay, repair open wire and retest. If okay, replace MCU and retest. Note that before replacing MCU, if engine fails to start, check for failure of ignition components first.
