Auto Check System
NOTE:
Before testing Auto Check system ensure battery has proper voltage and all vehicle lights are working. Ensure fuses S4, S6, S7, S10, S11, S12 and S14 are intact.
- It is not possible to test main control unit of Auto Check system. If measurements for individual circuits are within specifications, main control unit is defective and must be replaced. Unit is located behind center console on some models. Unit is located underneath glove box on others.
- Turn headlight switch on. Turn ignition on and depress brake pedal. The following functions or conditions will be checked and indicated on display unit and by a buzzer sound:
- Brake fluid level.
- Operating pressure in brake servo.
- Brake lights.
- Front brake pad wear.
- Fluid level in central hydraulic system.
- Fluid level in cooling system.
- Coolant temperature.
- Engine oil pressure.
- Fluid level in windshield washer system.
- Fuel level.
- Rear lights.
- Low beam headlights.
- Battery voltage.
- Malfunctions are classified into 2 groups; warning display and danger display. If a defect occurs in warning display group, (brake lights, brake pad wear, low beam headlights, rear lights, battery voltage, windshield washer and fuel level), appropriate symbol or letters will appear with or without a Yellow triangle. In addition, a buzzer will sound once.
- Fluid levels (brake, coolant, windshield washer) are displayed as long as alternator charge warning light (terminal No. 61) is connected to ground. If several defects in warning display are present at the same time, appropriate symbols are displayed. Only brake pad wear symbol will appear for as long as ignition switch is in "ON" position.
- If a defect occurs in danger display group, (brake fluid level, brake pressure, hydraulic fluid level, engine oil pressure, coolant temperature too high, coolant level), an appropriate symbol will appear in display unit with a Red triangle. In addition, a buzzer sounds 3 times. If there is a multiple failure, the first malfunction detected will appear.
- After this problem has been corrected, the warning light for the next malfunction will come on until all problem areas have been corrected. Internal bleed-down can cause hydraulic system to drop below 1740 psi (122 kg/cm2 ) after vehicle has been parked for extended periods.
- This condition is normal and will not affect system function. However, the monitoring system symbol may light for a few seconds after engine is started.
