Front Final Drive
NOTE:
This unit is part of the main transaxle housing.
- Drive vehicle a short distance to warm up gear oil to approximately 140° F (60° C). Position vehicle on level surface (4-post hoist or over pit). Turn engine off and let gear oil drain for 5 minutes. Place drain pan under final drive.
- Remove fill plug (arrow) on side of final drive. See Fig 1 . Gear oil level should be at lower edge of fill hole. Add appropriate fluid as required. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS .
- Always replace "O" ring for oiler fill plug. Using hex ball socket (3247), install fill plug and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- If gear oil needs to be replenished following final drive repair, fill front final drive slowly and evenly over a period of at least 5 minutes until gear oil drips out over lower edge of fill hole. A filling time of at least 5 minutes is necessary to allow gear oil time to settle evenly in differential and cavities. Perform short road test to heat gear oil up to approximately 140° F (60° C) and check oil level in front final drive.
CAUTION:
Use angled socket-head wrench to loosen locking bolt. DO NOT use hex ball socket (3247). Bolt could be damaged if hex ball socket is used.
NOTE:
For improved accessibility it may be necessary to remove heat shield and drive axle.
