DTC P1297/17705: Testing
DTC P1297/17705 sets when pressure drop is sensed in turbocharger vacuum/pressure circuit. Engine performance effect will be loss of power, due to low turbocharger pressure. To diagnose this DTC check following areas for malfunction:
Leak Down Stream Of Turbocharger
- Hose and pipe connections between turbocharger and charge air cooler (intercooler).
- Hose between charge air cooler and intake pipe.
- Charge air cooler.
- Charge Air Pressure (CAP) sensor seal to charge air cooler.
- Throttle valve control module to intake pipe seal.
- Intake pipe to cylinder head seal.
Leaks On Exhaust Side Of Turbocharger
- Turbocharger-to-exhaust manifold connection.
- Exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head connection.
Leak Downstream Of MAF Sensor
- Hose connections between MAF sensor and turbocharger.
- Crankcase ventilation hoses.
- Mechanical air recirculation hose connections.
If no obvious leaks are found in charge pressure system, test turbocharger using Turbocharger Tester (VAG1687) or equivalent. See TURBOCHARGER under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, use scan tool to clear DTCs and generate a ECM readiness code. See FUNCTION 05 - CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES and READINESS CODE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Test drive vehicle. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
