Front Final Drive
CAUTION:
Vehicle must be absolutely horizontal when checking transmission oil level. This work is best performed over an inspection pit or using a 4-column lifting platform.
CAUTION:
Prescribed oil level is to be adhered to exactly; transmission reacts very sensitively to over-filling.
- Drive vehicle a short distance to warm up gear oil to approximately 140°F (60°C). Position vehicle on level surface (4-post hoist or over pit). Turn engine off and let gear oil settle for 5 minutes.
- Place drain pan under final drive. Remove fill plug (arrow) on side of final drive. See Fig 1 . Check oil level with locally manufactured tool (e.g. a piece of angled wire). Gear oil level should be at 0.335" (8.5 mm) below lower edge of fill hole. Add appropriate fluid as required. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS .
- Install NEW fill plug. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install noise insulation
