General Information

Vehicles with level control and/or gas discharge lamps have standard automatic headlamp range control. Refer to OVERVIEW - AUTOMATIC HEADLAMP RANGE CONTROL .

To function properly, the level control and automatic headlamp range control system needs information about compression travel or rebound travel at the front and rear axles.

For this, the position of the left/right track control arm in relation to the body is transferred via a coupling rod to Left Front Level Control System Sensor -G78- and Right Front Level Control Sensor -G289-. This transmit electrical signals to the Left/Right High-intensity Gas Discharge Lamp Control Module -J343/344-.

Left/right high-intensity gas discharge lamp control module, servicing. Refer to LEFT/RIGHT HID HEADLAMP CONTROL MODULE -J343- /J344 .

At the rear axle, these signals from Left Rear Level Control System Sensor -G76- and Right Rear Level Control System Sensor -G77- are transmitted to the left/right high-intensity gas discharge lamp control module.

These signals are required for determining vehicle level.

The headlamp range control responds automatically to changes in the vehicle level.

The vehicle level can change in the following situations:

WARNING:

Adjusting headlamps, adapting the level control system and calibrating the lane assist!

It is always necessary to adapt the control position, to check the headlamp basic setting and to calibrate the lane assists when:

Adapt the control position. Refer to SELF-LEVELING SUSPENSION CONTROL POSITION, PROGRAMMING .

Headlamp basic setting. Refer to HEADLAMP, ADJUSTING .

Calibrating the lane assists. Refer to LANE ASSIST CALIBRATION PROCEDURE .
