Raising Vehicle: Notes
WARNING:
- Before driving the vehicle onto a workshop hoist, make sure there is enough clearance between any low-lying components and the hoist.
- Before driving a vehicle onto a lifting platform it must be ensured that the vehicle weight does not exceed the permissible lifting capacity of the platform.
- Vehicle may only be lifted at points indicated in illustration in order to avoid damaging vehicle floor pan or to prevent vehicle from tipping.
- Make sure that side member stiffener contacts support plate of lifting platform at center.
- Never start engine and engage a gear with vehicle lifted so long as even one wheel has contact with the floor! There is a risk of an accident if this is not observed!
- If work is to be performed under vehicle it must be supported by suitable stands.
NOTE:
The removable inserts located on the lower body side molding may have to be removed depending on the size of the hoists lifting pad.
Always use a suitable rubber or wooden block between the jack and the vehicle.
Do not lift the vehicle at the engine oil pan, transmission, or on front or rear axles as serious damage may result.
-- For vehicles with air suspension: Activate the vehicle lift mode. Refer to VEHICLE LIFT MODE, ACTIVATING .
When using a Workshop Hoist:
-- Set the parking brake so that the vehicle cannot roll away.
-- Engage a gear or move the selection lever into P.
Hoist and Jack Mounting Points
-- Position the support plate in the area of the side member marking on the plastic mounts -arrows- on the underbody.
NOTE:
The plastic mounts -arrows- are easy to find because there are arrow symbols stamped into the side sill panel (depending on the vehicle equipment level).
