Shift Mechanism, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the center console. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Disconnect the connector -1- from the selector mechanism to the vehicle wiring harness. (different installation positions)

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Pry the selector lever cable -1- off the selector shaft lever -2- using for example an open end wrench.

Tip:

Use pliers to remove the lock washer -3- from the cable bracket -4-. Do not use a sharp-edged lever. Otherwise the selector lever cable could get damaged. The bolts -5- are not removed.

-- Disengage the selector lever cable -1- from the clip -arrow- on the bracket -2-.

-- Remove the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the heat shield for the tunnel. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - HEAT SHIELD .

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- in the vehicle interior.

-- Remove the bracket -A-, if equipped.

• A second technician is required under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.

-- Remove the selector mechanism -B- with the selector lever cable and selector housing downward.
