Rpm Signal And Speed Sensor, Checking

RPM signal

-- Connect adapter: VAG1598/4 harness to 26-point instrument cluster connector (green).

-- Connect adapter harness to test box: VAG1598A

-- Connect engine tester VW 1367 to measure RPM

-- Connect signal wire (green terminal) of tester VW 1367 to socket 12 of test box: VAG1598A using connector test kit VW 1594.

-- Start engine and let idle.

If NOT:

-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary.

Speed sensor (speedometer)

-- Connect adapter: VAG1598/4 harness to 26-point instrument cluster connector (red).

-- Connect adapter harness to test box: VAG1598A .

-- Set digital multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to AC volt range.

-- Connect multimeter between sockets 8 and 14 of test box: VAG1598A .

-- Place transmission in neutral and apply parking brake.

-- Secure vehicle with wheel chocks to prevent rolling.

-- Raise left front of vehicle at proper lift point until wheel turns freely.

-- Place jack stand under vehicle for safety.

-- Switch ignition ON.

-- Slowly rotate left front wheel by hand.

If NOT:

-- Check wiring for open circuit according to wiring diagram, repair as necessary, or

-- Replace speed sensor.
