Instrument Cluster With Instrument Cluster Control Module J285, Removing And Installing: Removing
If the instrument cluster is replaced, the test plan for replacing the Instrument Cluster Control Module -J285- must be performed.
-- Perform the "control module, replacing" function using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester. Refer to Diagnostic Entries .
Continuation
-- Move the steering wheel as far to the rear and down as possible. Use the full steering column adjustment range for this.
-- Remove the instrument cluster trim. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Instrument Cluster - Low
-- Remove the instrument panel lower decorative trim on the driver side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL DECORATIVE TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the instrument panel lower decorative trim on the front passenger side. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL DECORATIVE TRIM, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Position the Hook: T40389 on the clips -1-.
Conditions
- The hook must lay horizontal.
-- Release the clips by turning the hook counter-clockwise.
-- At the same time, remove the instrument cluster -2- toward the rear.

Instrument cluster, high
-- Guide the Hook: T40389 at the top into the opening -arrow A- on the instrument cluster until it stops and position it on the clip -1-.
Conditions
- The hook must lay horizontal.
-- Release the clip by turning the hook counter-clockwise -arrow B-.
-- At the same time, remove the instrument cluster -2- toward the rear.
Continuation for all vehicles
-- Disconnect the connectors -1-, -4- and -5-.
-- Disconnect the antenna wire -3-.
-- Disconnect the fiber-optic cable connector -2-.
-- Insert the Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Connector Protective Caps:VAS 6223/9 -1- onto the MOST bus connector -2-.
-- Remove the instrument cluster on the front passenger side between the steering wheel and the instrument panel.
