Valve Guide Servicing

  1. If valve-to-guide clearance is excessive, drive out guide toward combustion chamber side of head. Check size of valve guide bore in cylinder head. Valve guide bore diameter should be the same as guide outside diameter.
  2. Valve guides are available in 3 oversizes. Oversize diameters are 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3 mm for 2.7L engine. On 3.2L engine, oversize diameters are 14.1, 14.2, and 14.3 mm. When installing guide, heat cylinder head to 122°F (50°C) and, chill valve guide to -238°F (-150°C).
  3. Drive guide into cylinder head from top. Stepped end of valve guide must face camshaft. Guide must protrude .551-.591" (14.0-15.0 mm) from top of cylinder head on 2.7L engine and, .513" (13.5 mm) on 3.2L engine. Ream valve guide for correct oil clearance.
