Injector Pump Drive Belt
NOTE:
If used belt is to be installed again, it may be only installed in the same running direction. Never turn the crankshaft or camshaft after removal of drive belt, since valve could be damaged.
- Set No. 1 cylinder to TDC and hold crankshaft in position using Special Tool (11 2 300). Mark on front of crankshaft must be aligned with notch in rear belt cover.
- Hold camshaft at TDC with Special Tool (11 3 090) on cylinder head. If belt is new, place a .098" (2.5 mm) feeler gauge blade between sealing surface for cylinder head cover and Special Tool (11 3 090) on exhaust side.
- Install drive gears of distributor injection pump, layshaft and crankshaft and tighten. Hold drive gear for injection pump with Special Tool (11 5 340).
- Install or loosen camshaft sprocket and tighten mounting bolt by hand and leave slightly loose. Move camshaft sprocket in engine turning direction toward pin against stop (counterclockwise).
- Install tensioning roller. Tighten mounting bolt and nuts by hand. Beginning on crankshaft sprocket, place toothed belt in teeth of injection pump sprocket and further the tension by pulling over the camshaft sprocket. Assure that "V" grooves are properly aligned. If one "V" notch off on pulleys 10 and 14, the belt will not reach. DO NOT force belt on.
- Remove special tool on injection pump sprocket. Be careful that belt does not jump out. Swing tensioning roller against back of toothed belt with 30-35 ft. lbs. (45-50 N.m) for belt with more than 10,000 miles.
NOTE:
Only use a torque wrench with an indicator (no ratchet wrench). Tighten baseplate of tensioning roller.
