DTC 209: Incorrect Fault Display: Troubleshooting

Only after an engine speed of greater than about 500 RPM has been detected, can the error message "transmission" be displayed in the instrument cluster when the wire from pin No. 29 has no ground. Using BMW service tester, activate fault display. Ground must be applied at pin No. 29. Trace signal to instrument cluster. Connect universal adapter and check wire. The following levels must be applied during normal operation (no diagnostic mode):

• With ignition on measure between pins No. 29 and 19 (battery voltage).
• With engine on measure between pins No. 29 and 19 (approximately zero volts).
