Steering Column: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Ensure wheels are in a straight-ahead position. Remove air bag and steering wheel. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE and STEERING WHEEL .
- Remove lower left dashboard trim. Remove screws and steering column lower trim. Remove universal joint bolt just below "Y" of steering column tube. Press down on steering spindle.
- Remove steering column tube bolts at "Y" of steering column tube. Remove steering column bracket bolts. Press down and remove steering column.
NOTE:
Alignment of splines on lower steering column shaft are marked with a dot of paint. If loosened, tighten adjusting nut so steering column shaft sliding force is 3.5-14.5 lbs. (1.6-6.6 kg).
