SITUATION

The following service information covers the release notes for DIS V52. This information can always be accessed directly from the DIS/GT1 Diagnosis Start screen.

CAUSE

DIS software errors/improvements

INFORMATION

DIAGNOSTIC HEAD UPDATE

The first time that the Diagnostic Head is connected after DIS V52 is installed, new firmware will be loaded into the head. This new firmware provides the Diagnostic Head with D-CAN capability, which enables the Diagnostic Head to be used on D-CAN vehicles for diagnosis (only via LAN cable).  Please ensure that all of your Diagnostic Heads receive this update.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: AUTOMATIC DEACTIVATION OF TERMINAL 15.

E60, E61, E63 and E64 vehicles produced from 9/2007

When Terminal 15 is left on with the engine off, Terminal 15 is automatically switched off when the driver's door is opened or closed. Pressing the Start/Stop button permanently switches Terminal 15 back on. Always carry out this procedure before programming or performing diagnosis on a vehicle  .

IMPROVED FEATURES

E85 (Z4) with S54 engine

  • New "Throttle valve control" control module function for moving the throttle valve into 3 different positions (0 degrees, 50 degrees and 90 degrees).
  • New "Throttle valve angle" control module function for reading the current throttle valve angle.

OTHER CONTROL MODULES

Car Access System (CAS) E60, E61, E63, E64, E90, E91, E92 and E93

Improvements have been made to the "Electric steering lock" test module with revision of test routines for fault code memory entries relating to the ELV.

USB Audio Interface (MULF2 High)

Expansion of fault pattern catalogues and test routines for stored faults.

Headphones module (KHM) E70

Diagnosis is now available for the headphones module.

MISCELLANEOUS

Energy Diagnosis (E60, E61, E63 and E64 from 9/07)

Diagnosis expanded to address the scenario in which Terminal 15 or Terminal R remains switched on for too long with the engine switched off.

Loudspeakers (E70)

Diagnosis is now available for diagnosing loudspeaker faults.

CD changer (E83)

Diagnosis is now available for diagnosing CD changer faults.

Remote control (all vehicles starting with E39)

Newly created diagnosis is now available for ID transmitters, radio remote control keys and receivers.

Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS)

New "read battery charge state" service function: This service function is used to read the battery charge curve and the state of charge of the battery over the last 5 days on vehicles equipped with IBS.

MECHANICAL DIAGNOSTICS

Mechanical diagnostics have been created or expanded for the following systems:

  • Heating and air conditioning functions (E60, E61, E63, E64, E70, E90, E91, E92 and E93)
    • The "Refrigerant circuit" test module has been expanded with known fault patterns associated with the "Insufficient or no cooling output" complaint.
  • Retractable hard top (E93)
    • The existing test modules for the retractable hard top have been expanded with new fault symptoms.
  • Tailgate (E70)
    • A new "Tailgate noises" test module has been introduced. The test module contains fault symptoms for noises from the tailgate.
  • Roller cover (E61)
    • A new "Roller cover noises" test plan has been introduced. The test module contains the known fault symptoms associated with the roller cover noises and malfunctions.
  • Power windows (E60 and E61)
    • Expansion of test modules for the power windows to include mechanical fault symptoms.
  • Luggage compartment trim (E91)
    • The test module contains known fault symptoms for noises from the luggage compartment trim.

FAULT SYMPTOM SELECTION

Fault patterns for the following systems have been newly created, or existing fault symptoms expanded, to handle problems without a fault code memory entry:

  • Car Communication Computer (CCC)
  • Central Head Unit and Multimedia Platform (CHAMP E60, E61 and E70)
  • Multi Audio System Controller (M-ASK)
  • Central Information Display (CID E83 and E85)
  • Rear Entertainment (RSE E70)

In the future, fault symptom "0000 Latest fault patterns from online update" will list important fault patterns that can be received through JETstream updates. These fault patterns are integrated into the conventional fault pattern selection with the release of DIS V53.

MODIFICATIONS IN DIAGNOSTICS BASED ON FEEDBACK CONCERNING THE BMW DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM

In total, over 180 faults and/or improvements have been made based on Diagnosis Feedback.

For information on Diagnosis Feedback, refer to SI B07 06 06 . Feedback can also be provided directly via the following e-mail address: Diagnose.Feedback@bmw.com  .

TEST MODULES WITH MEASUREMENT TECHNOLOGY

Test modules that are contained in the test plan but cannot be started (grayed out) require the use of measurement technology. This behavior can occur with the GT1 if the Measurements Interface Box (MIB) is not connected. The test module concerned can be started following connection of the MIB. The behavior described cannot occur with DISPlus because DISPlus is already integrated with measurement technology.
