Used in conjunction with the DISplus and MFK2 cables to perform automatic engine tests on N62 engines and newer.
The MKA engine test device is attached to the vehicles DME control module in the same manner as a Break Out Box.
To run the test, select "Engine Test N62 B1214 MTN62" in the DISplus "Test Plan" section for Engine Management. At the beginning of the test DME fault codes are read out. Any faults present should be repaired first using the appropriate test module. If the faults are not repaired before the engine test is run, the engine component (s) may be listed as "Out of Order" which will yield a test result of "Not Performed".
ENGINE TEST HIGHLIGHTS
Below is a brief description of tests that are performed using the MKA. In all approximately 100 individual tests are automatically performed.
SET POINT/ACTUAL VALUE COMPARISON
Engine operating values are automatically read, compared with the associated set point value and evaluated.
IGNITION
The primary side ignition signal for each cylinder is displayed as an oscilloscope pattern and automatically evaluated.
INJECTION
Injector activation signals are measured for each cylinder, displayed and then evaluated.
VANOS
VANOS is tested by adjusting the camshafts over the entire range of motion, which is analyzed by the DME.
SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM
Components are checked and evaluated by the Secondary Air System test.
VARIABLE INTAKE MANIFOLD (DISA)
DISA is controlled by the tester and adjusted over its full range of adjustment. The DME analyzes and evaluates the control characteristics.
COMPRESSION TEST
An absolute compression test is only run if the "Irregular Running" test shows at least 1 cylinder with a "Not OK" value and the ignition and injection signals are evaluated as "OK".
RESULTS
The results of the MKA engine test can be printed out as a separate report at the end.
