11 00 050 Removing And Installing Engine (N73)

NOTE:

For Special Tool identification, see ENGINE- SPECIAL TOOLS .

Special Tools Required:

11 0 000

Necessary Preliminary Tasks:

Disconnect battery negative lead. (Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery). Refer to 12 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
Lift engine hood into assembly position. Refer to 51 00... SERVICE POSITION OF ENGINE HOOD .
Remove radiator design cover.
Remove both air cleaner housings. Refer to 13 71 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT (OR RIGHT) INTAKE FILTER HOUSING (N73) .
Remove fresh air duct on left/right. Refer to 64 31 056 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT FRESH-AIR DUCT (AUTOMATIC A/C HIGH) .
Remove bulkhead, equipment compartment, center. Refer to 51 71 085 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CENTER OF ASSEMBLY COMPARTMENT BULKHEAD .
Release engine wiring harness from electronics box. Refer to 12 51 001 REPLACING WIRING HARNESS SECTION FOR ENGINE (N73) .
Drain coolant. Refer to 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (N73) .
Remove coolant expansion tank. Refer to 17 11 100 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING COOLANT EXPANSION TANK (N73) .
Remove radiator. Refer to 17 11 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING RADIATOR (N73) .
Remove A/C compressor drive belt. Refer to 11 28 050 REPLACING A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT (N73) .
Remove alternator drive belt. Refer to 11 28 010 REPLACING ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT (N73) .
Release fuel lines, feed and return lines. Refer to 13 53 175 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ALL PRESSURE LINES (N73) .
Remove front/middle underbody protection.
Remove reinforcement plate.
Remove exhaust. Refer to 18 00 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM (N73) .
Remove left exhaust manifold. Refer to 18 40 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT EXHAUST MANIFOLD (N73) .
Remove right exhaust manifold. Refer to 18 40 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD (N73) .
Remove transmission. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION .

NOTE: Resecure front axle support after removing both manifolds.

Installation:

Tightening torque, (100 N.m.).

Do not detach oil lines from automatic transmission to heat exchanger.

Secure starter motor (1) with transmission screw (2) against falling out.

Release A/C compressor (1).

Release power steering pump (2).

NOTE: Secure all connecting leads with cable ties (3) against falling down.

Detach plug connections (1) on tank vent valve cyl. 1-6 and 7-12.

Disconnect tank vent line (2) and lay to one side.

Disconnect vacuum line (3) and lay to one side.

Unlock and detach water hoses (1).

Unlock heater hose (2) and detach in direction of arrow.

Installation:

Plug connections of water hoses are correctly fitted when they snap into place with a clearly audible click.

Unlock water hose (1) on auxiliary water pump and detach in direction of arrow.

Unlock hose (1) and detach from secondary air pump.

Secure automatic transmission heat exchanger (2) with cable tie (3) against falling down.

NOTE: Engine removed for purposes of clarity.

Place engine oil cooler (1) on suction bridge.

Secure engine wiring harness (2) against falling down with cable tie (3) on suction bridge.

Mount special tool 11 0 000 on engine.

Remove screw (1) on left and right engine brackets.

Unfasten ground strap (2).

Remove engine. Refer to 11 00 050 REMOVING AND INSTALLING ENGINE (N73) .
