SPECIAL PROCEDURES FOR PROGRAMMING VEHICLES WITH CIP.
TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN
| BMW: | E60 (5 Series), E63/64 (6 Series) |
| GROUP: | 09 - Coding/Programming Explanation |
SUBJECT
Special procedures for programming vehicles with CIP.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
E60 (5 Series) with CCC (Car Communication Computer).
E63/64 (6 Series).
COMPLAINT
When using the procedure detailed in SI B09 05 01 for reprogramming a vehicle, the following problems may occur:
- CCC-A doesn't program, then cannot be recovered and has to be replaced.
CAUSE
Application problems with CIP versions up to 13.3.
MEASURE
Since introduction of CIP V 15.1 CCC modules should be programmed without using the CCC programming CD.
If programming still fails for CCC-a and/or CCC-BO use this procedure to recover the CCC module:
- Insert the CCC Program CD V2.0 into the DVD drive on the CCC and let the programming run until it is completely through (approx. 45 minutes).
- It may take 2 to 3 minutes before you see a change in the CID and the CCC start programming.
- You will observe multiple "progress bars" on the CID during this time.
- After the progress bar goes to 100%, it will stay on that screen for up to 15 additional minutes.
- The screen goes blank for 15 minutes.
- The system then reboots the CD will eject.NOTE: If the screen turns red perform a CCC reset and start over. A reset can be performed by simultaneously pressing both eject buttons and the on/off knob for longer that 3 seconds.
- After programming via the CCC Program CD is finished, connect the OPPS/OPS head using both the optical cable connected to the MOST port in the glove box and the OBD cable to the vehicle.
- Check your SSS/GT1 machine has FASTA set to "Active" so that the Technical Hotline can access this data in cases where you request Hotline help following programming aborts. For information on activating FASTA, refer to SI B07 07 01 .
- After completing the above Special Measures programming, restart CIP, create a new Measures Plan and finish programming with CIP using the regular procedure.
Because of the critical supply situation of the replacement CCC units, it is very important that an additional attempt be made to recover these failed units using the CCC Program CD.
BMW experience is that up to 40% of failed CCC units are recovered using the CCC Program CD.
In cases where the CCC cannot be recovered, dealers are requested to resubmit their PuMA case - see SI B84 12 04 .
